With solo travel on the rise, many cruises ships have created rooms, and even programs, just for solos. Check it out:
Norwegian Cruise Lines. With new studio cabins on four of its larger ships, Norwegian is embracing the solo traveler. There's even a shared social space just for solos called the Studio Lounge with a bartender and daily pre-dinner gatherings.
Destinations include Hawaii, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Europe and transatlantic.
Each cabin features a full-size bed and a window that looks out to the corridor. And the best part? Since these cabins are designed for solo travelers, there's no single supplement.
Holland America Cruise Line is also known for catering to solo travelers. There are plenty of activities that don't require a partner like culinary programs and wine workshops that are tons of fun. They also have a Single Partners Program which offers hosted onboard solo traveler events like cocktail mixers and games.
The line's newest ship offers 12 solo cabins which are all ocean view and priced for one. It's smallest ship has three solo rooms. Itineraries include the Bahamas and Europe and last from 4 to 28 days. For ships without solo rooms, a roommate-matching service helps to avoid a single supplement. It pairs passengers of the same sex with others who want to share and guarantees you'll only pay the agreed upon price, even if no partner can be found.
Royal Caribbean International Their newest ships feature 28 studio cabins and are a mix of inside cabins with a virtual balcony that projects live images of the ocean and ports, as well as staterooms with open-air balconies.
With the My Time Dining, solo travelers can request to be seated at a large table with other cruise goers for companionship. Plus, there are a host of other onboard activities that solo travelers can partake in from wine tasting demonstrations and cooking classes to fitness activities.
